About Us

The Department of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) was started in the year 2000, with an intake of 60 students. In this era of technological explosion, the department is dedicated to maintain a high standard of excellence through quality, technology and innovation. The MCA program seeks to prepare participants for high-level careers in the ever-expanding field of computer applications. It comprises a comprehensive and integrated sequence of courses aiming to develop knowledge and skills in all areas of computer applications.

The Department of Master of Computer Applications, Brindavan College is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and is affiliated to Bengaluru City University. Brindavan College is also awarded with NAAC ``A” grade twice.

    On completion of MCA degree, the graduates will be able to:

  • Design and develop applications to analyse and solve all IT related problems.
  • Design applications for any desired needs with appropriate considerations for any specific need on societal and environmental aspects
  • Analyse and review literature to invoke the research skills to design, interpret and make inferences from the resulting data work in an E-Business environment.

  • The students will have ample job opportunities in the field of information technology, Computer application development, Mobile application development, IOT and Artificial Intelligence areas.
  • Work in government or private sector jobs in different capacities as Programmers, IT Officers, Database Administrators, Data Scientists, Analysts etc.
  • Implement Web Applications using HTML 5, CSS, Java Script, JQuery, Angular JS, PHP, Bootstrap, Ruby, Rails and AJAX.
  • Implement Database Applications using Oracle, MySql etc..
  • Implement Networking Applications using Linux/Unix and NS2 Tools
  • Implement Commuter Applications using C, C++, JAVA and J2EE, Python, .Net, IOT Tools.
  • Work in the areas of software development, testing, designing, networking etc.
  • Develop Websites and Mobile applications etc.
  • Set up an independent business for multimedia and other graphics applications.


In each Semester a candidate should be considered to have successfully undergone the prescribed Course of study if the candidate has attended at least 85% of the classes in each subject (Theory, Lab & project).

University Examinations will be held twice in an academic year in Nov/Dec for odd semesters and in the month of May/June for even semesters. And eligible students are allowed to write University exams in regular semester and all the semesters back papers.

Computer Lab is equipped with forty high configuration Computers and advanced software tools along with Wi-Fi, Internet, LAN, and projector.

Department Club

Student activities like Computation events, Fests, Gaming events, etc are conducted through the Department Club “CLOUD NEON” under the supervision of Club members and faculty.

Library

Library is contented with More the 2500 Computer Books Comprising National and International authors. News Papers like Times of India, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Indian Express, Bangalore Mirrors, Economics Times, Mint and Vijaya Karnataka Various journal, Magazines, E-Journal – J GATE ( Social Science and Humanities)

PROGRAM DETAILS

Master of Computer Applications is two years, four semesters program. This program is designed for the students, who want to pursue their career in the field of Computer Applications. The program covers the major areas ranging from fundamentals to the advanced concepts through the subjects offered in the program. Along with programming languages, students are exposed to subjects like Research Methodology & IPR, Soft Skills, Personality Development and Quantitative Techniques. The students develop industry-oriented applications in the form of mini and main projects in second, third and fourth semesters respectively.

DURATION - Two Academic Years – Four Semester (each semester is of 16 weeks duration)

ELIGIBILITY

  • A candidate with any degree of a minimum of 3 years duration (10+2+3) of any University equivalent there in to with a minimum of 50% of marks in the aggregate of all subjects including languages, if any, provided further, that the candidate has studied mathematics - Computer science -Business Mathematics - Statistics - Computer Applications - Electronics as a subject at PUC level or equivalent HSC (XII Standard) or at Degree level is eligible for admission to MCA Course. Relaxation to SC-ST, Group I be extended as per University norms.
  • The candidates applying for government quota must appear for PGCET conducted by the Government of Karnataka. The candidates applying under management quota shall appear for National Level Entrance test or Karnataka K-MAT test.

DEPARTMENTS USP

The students of MCA acquire additional skill sets which will be required to fulfil the industry requirements. To help students gain these additional skills, the Department provides the following:

  • Value Added Courses with Certificate(Minimum 30 days training)
  • Two workshops in every semester.
  • Guest Lectures, Expert Talks, Industry Visits, etc
  • Counselling and Mentoring is also one of the USPs of the MCA Department.
  • Placement Assistance to all the students in the form of training, inviting companies to college to hire students for internships and full time jobs.


Bengaluru City University Examinations will be held twice in an academic year in Dec/Jan for odd semesters and in the month of May/June for even semesters.

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION -
  • The Internal Assessment marks are decided for each of the theory subjects by conducting 2 tests, each of 60 minutes duration, spread over the span of a Semester. A seminar should also be given by the student in the third year and the same to be assessed and evaluated for internal assessment along with the two tests. Internal marks also include the marks for students attendance, presentations, assignments and library hours.
  • The Internal Assessment marks in practical course is based on the performance in the Laboratory along with marks for assignments and library hours. The Internal Assessment marks for Project work of a candidate is based on the dissertation Seminar.
  • MINIMUM FOR PASS AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS -
  • For a pass in a semester, a candidate shall secure a minimum of 40% of the marks prescribed for a subject in the University Examination (Theory, Practical, Project work) and 50% of the marks in the aggregate inclusive of the Internal Assessment marks obtained in all subjects put together.
  • The candidates who do not satisfy the above mentioned criteria, shall be deemed to have failed and have to take exams in the subjects in which he has secured less than 40% at the University examination.

  • DEPARTMENT CLUB ACTIVITIES

    Students Club ELECTRO-PHONEIX has been established to give a stage to showcase their Technical skills in National Conference and Tech Fest Elcotsav.

    DEPARTMENTS CREDITS -

    The Department of MCA has many achievements to its credit. One of them is in the form of a University Rank in june 2018.

    ATTENDANCE -

    In each semester a candidate should be considered to have successfully undergone the prescribed Course of study if the candidate has attended at least 75% of the classes in each subject (Theory, Lab & Practical).

    TEACHING HOURS:

    Theory 4 Hours / subject / week and Practicals 8 hours/subject/week.

    VACATION:

    From odd to even semester - 15 days.

    From even to odd semester - approximately one month


After completing the course, the students will have ample job opportunities in the field of information technology and business.
