About the Programme

M.Tech in Structural Engineering is one of the Post graduate programs run by Department of Civil Engineering. The program is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. It is a two years postgraduate degree programme that involves the design of the concrete structure, the study of advanced materials and analysis of structures for dynamic forces. The objective to offer the course is to produce structural engineers who possess design and strong analytical skills and create a safe design. It is for aspirants who seek to grow in the design and construction industry on a higher pedestal.

Candidates who are enrolled in the course acquire knowledge about the materials used to design structure and train individuals on advanced concepts of structural engineering through projects and dissertation work. Analysis and design of structures, repair and rehabilitation of the structure, structural dynamics and earthquake-resistant design of structures, Finite Element Method of Analysis, Mechanics of Deformable Bodies and advanced materials are some of the major topics covered in the M.Tech in Structural Engineering course.

It is a practical learning course where students are involved in projects that include Structure Design labs and the latest design software and construction material lab.

Eligibility: Candidate must have completed Bachelors degree or equivalent examination in relevant branch from a recognized University/ Institute and must have secured 50% marks in aggregate percentage in the subjects taken together in all the years / semesters of the Degree Examination. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 must have secured 45% marks in aggregate percentage is applicable only for Karnataka candidates. Candidates who are in the final year and expecting the results are also eligible to apply. Candidates with valid GATE score are given first preference and such candidates need not appear for Karnataka PGCET. A few seats are also available under sponsored and Management quota.
